Week 7 of the College Football season has arrived and oh boy do we have ourselves a fun Saturday ahead of us with two top ten matchups and whole bunch more ranked matchups. Before we take a look at some of the premier matchups in Week 7, let’s catch up on the College Football Playoff odds to win the National Championship. For the first time this season, we have a team that isn’t Alabama or Georgia owning the shortest odds to win the National Championship. The Ohio State Buckeyes own +190 odds to win the College Football Playoff after the demolition of Michigan State.

While Ohio State heads into the bye week, #3 Alabama and #2 Georgia are in action. Alabama faces their biggest test of the season going to #6 Tennessee while Georgia hosts Vanderbilt. No doubt about it, the Alabama vs Tennessee matchup will make a big impact on the National Championship odds and the College Football Playoff outlook. Alabama’s odds this week dropped slightly from +200 to +220 while Georgia’s odds stood pat at +200.

The other Top 10 matchup that will have a big impact on the College Football Playoff Odds is #10 Penn State visiting #5 Michigan at the Big House in a battle of undefeateds. Both teams come in having not been tested too much this season, so it would appear that we’ll learn a good amount from these two teams on Saturday. Currently Michigan is tied for the 5th-shortest odds with USC at +2000 while Penn State has the 12th-shortest odds at +8000. If you’re a Penn State believer, now would be the time to buy in on those odds. A win on Saturday for the Nittany Lions would see those odds likely cut in half if not more.

There are a few more tricky matchups for some of the bigger favorites. #4 Clemson visits Florida State in a night game and while Clemson is the better team, Florida State is a much improved squad this season and they have the passing game to give Clemson’s secondary problems. #7 USC has the 5th-shortest odds along with Michigan at +2000, they have a very tough road test going to #20 Utah. While Utah has not lived up to the high preseason expectations, they’re a very tough team at home. If some of USC’s turnover luck starts to flip in this game, it could be a rough night for the Trojans.

National Championship Value Bets

There are a pair of Pac 12 teams with some value this week. UCLA and Oregon both have +6000 odds to win the National Championship. The Bruins and Ducks face off in Eugene next weekend, and the winner will have an inside track to get to the Pac 12 Championship game. Whoever wins that game will see their odds shorten quite a bit, so if you believe in either team, getting in a bet on one of them before their matchup next weekend would be wise.
