Mississippi Sports Betting

Mississippi Sports Betting began on August 1, 2018, when the Beau Rivage Casino and Resort and Gold Strike Casino Resort accepted the first sports bets. Soon, over 20 commercial casinos in the state started allowing sports betting by the end of the month.

Aside from that, tribal casinos controlled by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians have begun to provide sports betting services. According to the company, the Golden Moon Hotel and the Bok Homa Casino, which are all part of the Pearl River Resort, now feature sports betting lounges. Tribal casinos are not subject to the jurisdiction of the state’s gaming commission.

Sports Betting in Mississippi

In June 2018, the Mississippi Gaming Commission’s website launched with its rules, which include everything from definitions of sports betting words to how to pay out winning bets. The 22-page agreement made no provision for an “integrity fee” or royalty to be paid to professional sports leagues by the sponsors of the games. By the end of the summer, a total of 20 commercials and two tribal sportsbooks had opened their doors to accept sports wagering customers.

The state’s tax rate on sports betting revenues is 12%, with 8% going to the state and 4% going to the local government. It’s the same as every other gaming tax in Mississippi. For the time being, sports betting is only permitted on the premises of casinos, some of which may also provide mobile applications that will only be available on the premises as well.

For example, the tribal casinos Bok Homa, Golden Moon and Silver Star, all of which are a part of the Pearl River Resort, enable mobile wagering while on-site via the PRRSports app, which is available for iOS and Android devices. Most sportsbooks accept bets on a wide range of professional and college sporting events, including games between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. This is significant since several states do not presently allow gambling on college sporting events inside their borders, which is noteworthy.

The amount of money earned is increasing

Mississippi’s sports betting market has surpassed analysts’ forecasts. When sports betting was first legalized in New Jersey, a Global Market Advisors report predicted that the state’s in-person betting handle would be around $180 million per year. It didn’t take long at all for the bar to be raised. Even though sports betting businesses were still in the early stages of development in 2018, Mississippi managed to collect more than $150 million in wagers from September to December.

Mississippi’s sportsbook handled more than $300 million in its first full year of operation (August 2018 to August 2019), according to the state. During the calendar year of 2019, that figure increased to $370 million. This generated more than $5 million in revenue for the state, thanks to the state’s 8 percent tax rate. While mobile wagering would take things to a whole new level, retail sportsbooks have in the present term attracted more people to casinos, restaurants, and hotels.

Is mobile betting on the horizon?

Even while retail sportsbooks have seen considerable success in Mississippi, the state has yet to embrace internet betting to its full extent. As web-friendly jurisdictions like New Jersey take more than 80 percent of their wagers online, the Magnolia State has huge potential for development, and initiatives are already underway to realize that promise. Mississippi would benefit greatly from the introduction of mobile betting.

Not only would it significantly expand the number of individuals who have easy access to sportsbooks, but it would also have a significant positive impact on the range of wagers offered. Online sportsbooks can give live, in-game wagers far more quickly than traditional retail bookmakers. In most cases, online sportsbooks can accommodate your wagering preferences on a particular sporting event. Representative Cedric Burnett introduced House Bill 172 in January 2020, which would allow each of Mississippi’s casinos to provide an online/mobile sports betting product that could be accessed from any location in the state.

While online sports betting is hardly great in Mississippi, several major sportsbooks are already established in the state. These are either through partnerships with existing casinos or by owning retail sportsbooks or casinos themselves in the state. They currently offer sports betting on retail locations but are prepared for the impending launch of the on-the-go sports betting market in Mississippi.

Online Sports Betting sites coming soon to Mississippi

Already, there are several sportsbooks available in Mississippi and several major ones too. However, as seasoned bettors may notice, some big players of the US sports betting landscape are still missing. There are currently several sportsbooks that are expected to launch in Mississippi shortly. Many of those may launch alongside the impending legislature that allows remote online sports betting in the state. PointsBet Bet365 Unibet

How we pick the best sports betting sites in Mississippi

It’s easy to get caught up looking for sports betting sites on the Internet, particularly when there are so many to select from for sports bettors. We’ll show you how we determine the best betting sites in the US. We also propose aspects to consider when picking the best betting site for your betting preferences to help you swiftly identify the best betting site for your requirements. There is no right or wrong method to choose a betting site; what matters is that you choose one that best suits your requirements. We recommend that you consider the following elements to assist you. Availability in your state is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a betting site

  • Features of betting
  • Betting Markets on offer
  • Customer service
  • Sports broadcasting
  • Live Betting options
  • Odds for mobile betting
  • Options for payment
  • Promos
  • Bonus for new customers

Availability

Check out which betting sites you can make use of to save time (legally). Because each state has implemented legal sports betting in its way, you can’t assume that every betting site is accessible. As a result, it’s best to double-check. The number of betting site licenses authorized, the cost of a license, the tax rate for operators, and the appropriateness of a state to a specific operator are all factors that influence the availability of a betting site. Alternatively, there remains a chance that your state may not have legalized sports betting whatsoever. DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM are three betting platforms with excellent interstate access. These are the three most accessible sports betting sites at the moment, which might be handy if you travel often between states.

Features of betting

There are several additional things to look for that might make betting more fun. They include Bet Builders, which enable you to design your customized bet, Cash-Out, which allows you to settle a bet for its live value before an event concludes, and Stat Centers, which provide you with a full overview of player and team facts as well as form guidelines to base your bet on.

Betting markets on offer

Every betting site will have regular betting markets (Moneyline, Point Spread, Totals). However, not all sportsbooks have the same level of betting options. We propose that you go through the site to see how much each sport is covered. How far does the betting site go in terms of providing services that are above the norm? We’re talking about game props, team props, player props, 60-minute props, team futures, and player prizes – the possibilities are unlimited. You can bet on almost anything these days (within reason), so don’t settle for anything less than the greatest betting markets.

Support for customers

Customer service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the leading betting sites. They also reply quickly to inquiries received via a variety of channels, including social media. It’s understandable if you haven’t given this much consideration yet in your betting career. However, there will come a point in your betting career when you need some sort of customer service. And if the service isn’t up to par, you’re likely to get irritated and move your business elsewhere. Customer service is an important aspect of a betting site that you should consider.

Professional sports coverage

While we can reasonably assume that one of the big four major leagues will be the primary focus of your betting, having the option to wager on a variety of sports, both in the US and from abroad, is something you should consider. To begin with, it’s a solid sign of a well-rounded sports betting service. But, as they say, variety is the spice of life, and betting on a different sport now and again can well open your eyes to a new sport you hadn’t considered before. What happens if your favorite sport isn’t in season and you’re looking for anything to place wagers on? Finding a betting site that offers a diverse range of sports not only adds to the fun but will also help you become a better all-around sports bettor in terms of understanding odds and learning about other sorts of betting markets.

Live Sports Betting

The option to place a bet as the action develops has become such a popular method to wager in recent years that it’s hard to see how we ever managed without it! Live betting, often known as in-play betting, allows you to wager on a game that has already begun. Odds change in response to what is occurring in the game, allowing you to call the game as you see it and instantly identify a winning wager. Given its popularity, industry analysts believe that the quality of a betting company’s live betting offering will determine whether it wins or loses business in the future.

Odds

When deciding which online betting site to use, it’s important to look at the odds and shop around for the best lines. At the end of the day, you want the greatest value for your money, and the odds decide how much you can win or lose. Are you looking for the most bang for your buck? Sports betting is infamous for its razor-thin margins, so any advantage you can get is worth pursuing. Several odds comparison services may assist you with this, but we recommend selecting a few betting sites that you like the appearance of and comparing odds on a single event. It’s also worth mentioning that certain US betting sites have no discernible differences. The reason for this is that a single sports betting technology vendor manages a large number of betting sites. Kambi owns and operates US sportsbooks such as DraftKings, 888sport and Unibet. As a consequence, these betting sites all have the same odds.

Options for payment

It’s critical to be able to deposit funds into your betting account in a smooth manner. But withdrawing your winnings is even more important; you don’t want to be waiting days for the money you’ve won. A betting site that accepts a variety of banking methods, including the most popular ones like credit/debit cards, PayPal, PayNearMe and prepaid cards, as well as a decent mix of online and offline ways, should be a top priority. Having a variety of methods to finance your account means you’re more likely to choose the most convenient choice for you. These also reflect the trustworthiness of the gaming platform. When Mississippi introduces online sports betting, it’s likely that the following payment methods will be allowed.

Promotions and reward systems

Existing customers, rather than newcomers, benefit from daily promotions and incentive schemes. Even so, understanding what’s available after you join up should be a consideration. The degree of promotions and offers for your favorite sports and contests is a solid sign of what more is in store for you as a client, whether it’s an Early Payout Offer, Parlay Insurance, specialized sports incentives, or deals based on certain events. You’ll also get the chance to learn more about how the operator rewards loyalty. However, some of the best betting companies don’t put a lot of focus on promotions and incentive programs, preferring to let their product speak for itself. To put it another way, don’t choose a mediocre betting site with a huge list of promotions over a more well-rounded betting site.

Experience of the users

When it comes to picking a sports betting service, usability is crucial. A betting site may have all the bells and whistles, but if it doesn’t pay attention to the whole user experience, it’ll be doomed from the start.

This is because sports bettors expect to discover precisely what they’re looking for in a couple of seconds. Instantly if you’re betting in-play when every second counts in terms of gaining an advantage and ensuring your bet wins. Top betting companies strive to make the whole client experience as frictionless as possible, from signup through bet placement. We urge that you check it out for yourself and see how simple it is to traverse the site from beginning to end.

Welcome Bonuses

To entice new clients to sign up, betting sites provide welcome bonuses and free bets (also known as betting site joining incentives). A welcome bonus or signup offer may be used to test out a betting site, and it’s a wonderful method to see whether it’s right for you.

How to start betting in Mississippi

There are several characteristics to look for when putting your wagers on sports in Mississippi: Offers such as no-risk bets, bonuses, and other incentives: In Mississippi, you may take advantage of free bets and incentives at casinos. Even simply for joining up, you will almost certainly earn benefits. When new customers join up, they are often given promotional coupons.

Bets on sporting events and the chances of winning: In Mississippi, the first thing you should do before entering a casino is to confirm if the casino provides wagering on sports and events you are interested in. However, international soccer and horse racing are not always available, unlike the NFL. As soon as you’ve decided on what you want to wager on, check out how competitive and high-quality the odds are.

Check out an odds comparison website to see how they compare to other casinos and do some research on it. User-Friendly Design: Some firms are interested in the user experience, but others are not worried about it. When it comes to casinos, the situation is similar. Investigate the sportsbooks that are accessible in Mississippi casinos to determine which ones are most appealing to you.

Benefits of betting online in Mississippi

Although Mississippi limits sports bettors to do their business only in established casinos and sportsbook premises, there are a few advantages to that. While it’s true that online sports betting has more advantages and enticing features attached to it, wagering in brick-and-mortar casinos is unique and classic. Nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the vibe and experience of sports betting in a real, physical casino environment. While online betting is more flexible, has more opportunities, and offers more convenience, in-house sports betting is far more fun and thrilling, as it is a whole vibe itself.

Most popular sports to bet on in Mississippi

Mississippi has an avid sports fan base that loves watching several sports with a passion. As is the case almost everywhere within the US, football dominates in Mississippi, with basketball not far behind at all. Therefore, the NFL and NBA attract the most viewership and sports betting audience in Mississippi. Apart from these, there is NHL and MLB, who also have passionate fan followings and active sports betting audiences. Lastly, while MLS may not be as huge as the other leagues, its popularity has exploded in the last decade. It’s expected to present a challenge to the other leagues, especially with its high-profile acquisitions from Europe such as Ex-Barcelona striker David Villa, Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimović and most recently, Italian fan-favorite Lorenzo Insigne from Napoli.

Other Sporting Events in Mississippi to bet on

There is no escaping the fact that the major US sports leagues, such as the NBA, MLB and NFL, dominate the viewership market as well as the betting landscape. However, there are also several less-popular, more specialized and niche betting markets presented by major US sportsbooks, and in Mississippi, too. Among these are greyhound racing and horse racing. Additionally, darts and Aussie Rules are also quite popular among niche offerings.

Mississippi Sports Betting Mistakes to Avoid in Mississippi

Mississippi bettors are relatively new to sports betting, especially online sports betting. It is not uncommon to make mistakes at the beginning of your betting life, which can be very costly. On the other hand, some simple measures can minimize the chances of you losing large sums of money over novice mistakes.

  • Double-check the number of your wagers
  • Look at the payout notification carefully
  • Don’t ever bet at offshore illegal sportsbooks
  • Maintain solid bankroll management and handicapping
  • Mississippi Sports betting site promotions

As in every other legal US sports betting state, sportsbooks in Mississippi also try to entice users with various incentives and bonuses. These offerings can vary greatly, both in quality and the value they provide Free Bets: Sportsbooks offer users a certain amount of money in free bets; a great way to break the ice and get started Risk-free bets: The value of your first bet is fully refunded in case your bet loses; A great way to experiment and begin without risking your own money. Enhanced odds: Better chances of your bet winning, usually offered on pre-selected bets; a great way to get the seasoned bettors into coming back for more.

Mississippi Sports Betting Law

A timeline of sports betting developments in the state of Mississippi Licensed and regulated sports betting became allowed in Mississippi in August of 2018. While online sports betting and gambling are permitted in Mississippi, you had to be physically present at a casino to do so. Fortunately, new legislation that has been submitted may result in a shift in this situation later in 2022, which would be a positive development.

Representative Cedric Burnett proposed HB 184, a measure that would enable operators to “accept bets placed through sports pool wagering accounts using digital platforms, provided that such wagers are originated, received, and made inside Mississippi,” at the beginning of January 2018. It is anticipated that the measure will become law on July 1, 2022. To place a bet in Mississippi, a person must visit one of the state’s actual sportsbooks.

Bets on sports may be made in person at these venues or via the use of a mobile app from any point on the site, regardless of location. There are currently no online sportsbooks operating in the state. However, this is contingent upon how the laws are revised in 2022. Currently, any form of legal gaming must take place at the licensed establishments. Therefore, mobile sports betting on the go is not an option.

A measure to authorize mobile sports wagering outside of casinos in Mississippi was introduced in 2019; however, the bill was never brought forward for a vote. Due to the fact that Mississippi’s present sports betting regulation is much less lucrative than allowing qualified sports bettors to make bets from their cellphones, the state’s current mobile sports betting restrictions may be lifted shortly.

Furthermore, nearby states such as Louisiana have already authorized internet betting, so Mississippi will make every effort not to slip farther behind. 1989 Gambling on cruise ships will be permitted in Mississippi if the ships are also traveling through or returning from international seas, according to state legislators. 1990 Earlier this month, the Mississippi legislature passed a measure creating the Mississippi Gaming Commission, which would govern dockside casinos.

The legislation becomes effective in June. 1992 In October, the state of Mississippi will license and oversee the state’s first bingo establishment. 1993 With the establishment of the Mississippi Gambling Commission, the state’s gaming industry may now be regulated. 2014 The Internet Gaming Taskforce is established by the Mississippi House of Representatives’ Gaming Committee.

According to the findings of the fact-finding mission, the task force studies online sports betting and gambling and concludes that several difficulties prevent sports betting from becoming a popular option in the state. 2017 To allow regulated sports betting at its casinos, the state has repealed the portion of the law that outlaws sports betting while also waiting for the Supreme Court to remove the last hurdle. 2018 Beginning in August, the state of Mississippi will allow sports betting.

Although sports betting is permitted under the legislation, it is only permitted for bets placed in-person at licensed establishments or for bets placed via applications on mobile devices while at such places, according to the court. 2022 Legislation introduced by House member Cedric Burnett, H.B. 184, would permit mobile betting anywhere in the state, rather than just on casino properties.

Current Legislative Initiatives

House Bill 997 would enable full mobile sports betting in Mississippi and would provide one online betting license to each of the state’s casinos. Current regulations limit the ability of casinos to offer mobile betting apps to individuals who are physically present inside their premises. Even while House Bill 997 eliminates that restriction and permits betting across the state, there is a key caveat. Bettors must appear in person to open a betting account.

Although in-person registration is not a novel concept, this legislation makes it a significant step further. Renewals of accounts must be done in person at least once every 12 months, which would be the first time such a requirement has been implemented in the US. Mississippi legalized sports betting in August 2018, barely three months after abolishing the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which permitted sports betting to grow outside of Nevada. Because none of Mississippi’s neighboring states legalized sports betting, the retail casinos in the state were quite busy, particularly with people traveling from Louisiana.

Yes. However, while in-person betting is only available while physically present at betting locations such as casinos and retail sportsbooks, awkwardly enough, so is online betting.

The Mississippi Gaming Commission oversees and regulates all legal gambling and sports betting in Mississippi.

You can place bets while physically present at any legal casino that has an integrated sportsbook.

Yes. But there is a requirement for the bettor to be physically present at a legal casino to do so.

Anyone of 21 years of age and a valid holder of an account at a legal US sportsbook can bet on sports in Mississippi.
