Known first to sports fans as a daily fantasy sports giant, FanDuel is one of the most widely distributed sports books in the United States, operating in 13 states as of the end of 2021 with three more prepared to launch in 2022.

That breadth has resulted in numerous partnerships with leagues and teams across the country, including official relationships with MLB, the NBA, the NHL and the PGA Tour.

For bettors, that means increased wagering opportunities and access to content, whether they’re watching on TV, streaming online or even at an arena that has a retail FanDuel sportsbook

In other words, if you’re living in a legal sports betting state and looking for a user-friendly betting experience, FanDuel is a very good place to start.

FanDuel has popularized the “same game parlay” to combine multiple bets within one contest in various sports. And more recently, FanDuel is the only sportsbook with Same Game Parlay Plus. This option allows bettors to combine a Same Game Parlay with individual bets from other games.

Here’s a breakdown of FanDuel’s particular strengths and weaknesses relative to the American sports betting market.

FanDuel Pros

Wide availability

If you live in a state where sports betting is legal, it’s very likely that you live in a state where FanDuel is already operating, either via its online or mobile platform or through a brick-and-mortar retail sportsbook.

Fantasy Sports crossover

FanDuel was already one of the United States’ two largest daily fantasy sports operators, meaning bettors who also enjoy both can play both while using the same account.

Competitive odds

The odds offered on FanDuel are often some of the better ones in the business from gamblers’ perspective. This is particularly true on more widely bet markets and bigger games, and especially on wagers on total goals or points scored.

Generous beginner promos

FanDuel offers a “No Sweat First Bet” of up to $1,000. In other words, if you make a $1,000 bet and it loses, $1,000 will be returned to your account. You must make additional wagers equivalent to $1,000 before you can withdraw those funds, however. But if you’re planning on being a regular bettor — even if you’re playing relatively small amounts of money — you’d be foolish not to take advantage of this offer, whether you bet $1,000 with your first wager or a smaller amount.

FanDuel Cons

Later line availability in some markets

FanDuel is at times cautious relative to other books in posting opening lines, particularly in futures markets and lesser-bet sports. For example, if a star player is questionable due to injury or illness, FanDuel is likely to delay posting its expanded market for that game until gaining clarity on that situation and how it impacts the bigger picture. If you’re the type who likes to look for an edge with early lines, you might be better served using a different book as your primary platform.

Website/app layout

If you’re into more exotic wagers, it can be difficult to browse your options. FanDuel requires often requires users to click in and out of tabs to see the odds on bets that are outside the simple moneyline, point spread and total score picks. This can be particularly frustrating if you’re wanting to browse through a specific market (for example, team totals) across an entire league or sport.

Odds format

While most users will be plenty happy to use the standard American odds (+100) format, FanDuel is one of a few sportsbooks that does not allow users to change their odds to a decimal (2.00) or fractional (1-1) format. Some bettors find decimal odds in particular to be more user friendly because they can make it easier to compare and compute implied probabilities.

FanDuel Review Summary

Critics might claim FanDuel’s platform is not the sleekest or most sophisticated, and not all markets offer the best odds including the amount of cut the house takes.

However, whether you’re a seasoned bettor or just a casual player, FanDuel is likely to offer you some value.

Plenty of regular bettors are happy using FanDuel as their primary options, while others who do most of their wagering elsewhere may still turn to FanDuel from time to time for price competitiveness or a specific betting market.

FanDuel Website/APP Review

The FanDuel Sportsbook website and app is one of the most widely distributed and highly trafficked in the American sports betting industry.

Here’s a breakdown of what online bettors can expect when playing on FanDuel.

Website/App experience:

FanDuel’s website and app display are clean and simple relative to some sportsbooks.

This can sometimes make it more time consuming to browse specific betting markets. But it also leads to quicker loading times and more consistent functionality than some other sites.

It’s also one of the few sites that allows users to toggle between sports betting and daily fantasy sports with the same account, although you’ll need to download both apps if you are using a mobile device.

FanDuel was the first U.S. sportsbook to offer live streaming of sporting events inside a betting app.

Registering/creating an account:

First, go to sportsbook.fanduel.com or download the FanDuel sports betting app and select your state where you will be betting.

Worth noting, the app allows for toggling between horseracing, daily fantasy games and the sportsbook platforms.

Find the applicable platform before proceeding with account establishment. From there, you’ll be asked to submit your email address along with a username and password.

If FanDuel is not available in your state, you can still create an account using the state you plan to wager from. But you will have to be physically inside that state’s borders to place any bets.

Both the website and the app will require you to use or install location checking services before making a wager.

Payments:

Withdrawals are generally approved within 24 hours of being requested. Balances can be paid to bank accounts or Venmo/PayPal accounts within 72 hours.

A personal check sent via mail is also an option.

Customers can also make cash withdrawals from their accounts at retail FanDuel sportsbook locations.

Deposit and withdrawal methods at FanDuel:

FanDuel has a wide range of deposit methods for bettors. Users can use their banking information, a credit or debit card, PayPal, Venmo, a wire transfer, CashNearMe, FanDuel’s prepaid Play+ service, or with cash at a retail sportsbook location.

Once you deposit money into your account, FanDuel will save the information from that deposit method so you can use it more quickly when adding funds to your account.

Users can withdraw money from their account using their banking route and account number, Venmo, Paypal, a personal check or a cash payment from a retail sportsbook location.

Customer Service:

Users who need customer service can click the support tab on the website or app. From there, they will be directed to a list of frequently asked questions, or given the option to open another tab and have a live online chat with a customer service representative.

License, safety and security:

FanDuel’s online platform is licensed in 13 states with three more expected to be granted in the coming months.

FanDuel also operates retail sportsbooks, including in some of those three states where mobile sports betting has yet to be licensed.

FanDuel users can set numerous safeguards on their account to limit the amount of money they wager, including deposit limits, contest entry alerts, contest entry limits, maximum entry fee limits, wager limits, maximum wager size limits and time limits.

Users can also request an indefinite period or specific-length time where their account is made inactive, or periodic reminders that show their usage and spending statistics.

FanDuel customers who want an additional layer of privacy for their account can request two-step account verification features when creating their account.

They can also keep children from using their account with standard parental control software.

Rewards & Loyalty Program:

FanDuel does not offer a rewards program for sports bettors, but it does enter all fantasy sports players into its FanDuel Players Club. Sports bettors can acquire $50 in betting credit for themselves and for a new user by referring a friend to create an account.

Live Betting and Streaming:

FanDuel offers live betting on most of its pregame betting markets. Additionally, FanDuel allows users to livestream up to two NHL games per day via FanDuel’s sportsbook website and app.
Betting Options: FanDuel offers all the standard betting markets, including money line, point spreads, total points/goals, team total points/goals, and parlay wagers tying together multiple bets on multiple games.

Additionally, FanDuel offers same-game parlays on many of its more popular markets, in which bettors can tie multiple bets from a single game together for a larger payout.

Some restrictions apply to same-game parlay wagers. And its Same Game Parlay+ features allows bettors to combine same-game parlays from two different games into one, higher-payout bet.

Limits, Odds, Games and Tournaments available:

Wagers on FanDuel are limited to $1,000,000 for most categories of wagers, and smaller sums of $250,000 or $500,000 for some more niche markets.

However, bettors are not allowed to withdraw more than $1,000 per day from their FanDuel accounts.

Fanduel offers wagering on 18 different sports, from the NFL and college football markets that dominate the fall betting landscape to far more niche pursuits like darts, cycling, volleyball and both rugby league and rugby union.

Notable features:

With unique features such as Bad Bet Relief and Early Payouts for championship teams, FanDuel is one of the best online and mobile sportsbooks.

FanDuel also rates highly providing bettors with real-time stats showing clearly how much money they have wagered, gained and/or lost over their tenure as FanDuel users.

FanDuel also offers live streaming of sporting events within the app.

Additionally, FanDuel’s Same Game Parlay+ is a unique feature that allows bettors to make parlay wagers that involve multiple markets from multiple games (i.e. two or more bets from Game 1 plus two or more bets from Game 2, etc.).

FanDuel Sportsbook State Restrictions

FanDuel complies with state requirements that limit the amount of funds players can deposit in any rolling 31-day period via online and mobile platforms. Three states have such limits:

Massachusetts residents:

Bettors may only deposit $1,000 per 31 days.
Maryland residents and bettors in Maryland: Bettors may deposit only up to $5,000 per 31 days.

Tennessee residents and bettors in Tennessee:

Bettors may deposit only up to $2,500 per 31 days.
Additionally, bettors can only use FanDuel Sportsbook in the states where FanDuel operates online or retail sportsbooks. Bettors do not have to be residents of those states, but must be within state borders when making wagers.
