Nascar Odds, Picks, & Best Bet: Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway

Christopher Bell looks to replicate his earlier run at Darlington during the Cook Out Southern 500

The Nascar Cup Series Playoffs get underway in Darlington with the Cook Out Southern 500. The green flag is scheduled to drop around 6 pm et for the scheduled 367-lap race at Darlington Raceway. There are a few drivers that love racing here with one guy, whom you’ll find below, that absolutely dominates this track. Top 10 Finish: William Byron -120 (FanDuel)

Willy B. has struggled to put together complete races this season and is probably amidst the worst stretch of his career. He has gone 10 consecutive races without a top 10 finish and has just ONE such result over the last 18. However, he performed really well here back in the spring when he:

  • Qualified 9th
  • finished stages 1 & 2 inside the T10
  • led 24 laps
  • Had the 3rd best speed ranking

There have also been signs of a resurgence as we enter the playoffs. He’s tied for the 6th best speed ranking over the last six races, and he has FOUR 12th or 11th place finishes over the last 7 races. Byron had 13+ T10 finishes in each of the previous three seasons, and these odds are way too juicy to pass up.

Outright: Christopher Bell +2000 (DraftKings)

Firstly, Bell has been one of the strongest qualifiers all season, and these odds will shrink if that continues on Saturday. As far as his potential to win the race, he performed really well here in the Spring running inside the T10 all race and finishing 6th. He ran great and finished 4th at the similar tire wear modeled track of Dover this year. And lastly, over the last five races not at Michigan or Daytona, he has an avg. finish of 5th. His odds have already begun to shorten at other sportsbooks where they’re around 17 to 18/1 so maybe the sharps are telling us something *wink wink* haha.

Cook Out Southern Best Bet: Kevin Harvick Top 10 -140 (DraftKings)

Was there any doubt that KV would find himself on my betting card somewhere? He owns Darlington!

  • 13 straight T10 finishes with the last 12 coming with SHR here
  • Led laps in 6 straight and in 8 of the last 10 trips to Darlington

Even when it looked like his 2022 would be his worst in some time, Harvick proved he’s still got it in Darlington coming from the rear of the field to finish 4th back in May. He also ran really well and finished 9th at the similar tire-modeled track of Dover. Kevin has not surprisingly been one of the most consistent drivers this season with the 3rd best average finish of 13.4 and accumulating 13 T10s which is tied for the 3rd most. These odds range from -167 all the way to -300 which quite honestly, is where I expected to see them. No chance am I passing on this for my Cook Out Southern Best Bet.
