What are Same Game Parlays?

how to bet on sports

As legal sports betting spreads over the US, sportsbooks constantly try to develop exciting ways to keep their fanbase engaged and attract new fans. And while this brought sports bettors some good things, one thing eluded the betting market for so long that we thought it would never arrive; same game parlays.

Fortunately, things took a turn for the better when FanDuel started allowing fans to make same game parlays. They were such a hit among handicappers that by mid-2021, many online sports betting sites had introduced them.

What Are Same Game Parlays?

A parlay wager is created when you combine multiple bets in one bet slip. Bettors parlay their bets to increase the risk of the wager, increasing their potential winnings. By parlaying your bets, you can win well over 100 times your bet amount.

Before 2021, many online sportsbooks only allowed bettors to parlay multiple games. But seeing the success of FanDuel’s same game parlays, they stopped blocking them.

Same game, one game, or single game parlays work just as regular parlay bets. But this time, the bet slip consists of wagers on one specific match. For example, if the Golden State Warriors are facing off Miami Heat, you can make moneyline, props, spreads, and total bets of the game in one slip.

How Odds Work on One Game Parlays

The odds represent the probability of a certain outcome occurring. In a same game parlay, this will be the combined probability of all your predicted outcomes for the game. However, you’ll see the odds just as you would when making a single; they don’t get any more complicated to read.

Take the above game, for instance. If you wager on the Warriors to win, Steph Curry to score 30 points, and the total score to go above 220 points, the odds will be based on the probability of all these outcomes occurring.

As you add more selections to the bet, the odds will adjust to reflect the risk level. The more selections you have in your parlay bet, the riskier it becomes and the bigger your potential winnings. Thus, it’s no surprise to find same game parlays with odds of 200 to 1.

Sportsbooks That Offer Same Game Parlays

Today, almost all the top sportsbooks offer same game parlays for basketball, football, baseball, hockey, and/or soccer games.

FanDuel Sportsbook

FanDuel is one of the most popular sportsbooks in the country. It was the pioneer of same game parlays for the NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL. You can still create your same game parlays on FanDuel under the “Same Game Parlay” tab.

BetMGM

BetMGM is another top sportsbook that supports same game parlays across all the major leagues. Here, the option is known as a “One Game Parlay” and is available for the NFL, NBA, NHL, UEFA Champions League, and more.

BetRivers/SugarHouse

BetRivers and Sugarhouse are essentially the same sportsbooks operating in different states. For now, they only support same game parlays for the NFL, college football, and soccer games. These are available under the “Same Game parlay” tab in either sportsbook.

Caesars Sportsbook

Caesars is one of the best sportsbooks in the country. It is operated by the William Hill company and supports the option across various sports and leagues.

DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings is available in almost all states where online sports betting is legal. Under the “Same Game Parlay” tab, you can make your same game selection for basketball, football, and hockey games, as well as those in other sports.

Barstool

Barstool sportsbook started supporting same game parlays in September 2021. The option is available for football, basketball, baseball, and other popular sports. You can find it under the “Parlay+” tab.

How to Place a Same Game Parlay

All sportsbooks that support the same game parlay have a tab where you can make such bets. This tab displays all the betting markets available for a particular game. As you make your selections, the odds of your parlay update automatically.

Same Game Parlay betting tips

All your predictions must be correct for you to win a same game parlay. This makes them incredibly risky. To increase your chances of winnings, you want to parlay correlated wagers. These are wagers where the likelihood of one wager winning is influenced by the outcome of another.

For instance, if Steph Curry has a great game and scores more than 30 points, then the Golden State Warriors are quite likely to win. So, a prop that Steph will score more than 25 points and a moneyline that the Warriors will win are examples of correlated wagers. Making same game parlays with such bets increases your chances of winning.

Why bet on a Same Game Parlay?

It’s all about the payout. Parlays typically have the biggest payout in sports betting. Depending on your selection, you can win as much as two hundred times your initial bet amount.
