Southampton vs. Liverpool Odds, Picks, Predictions: Liverpool’s Title Hopes On The Line

Southampton Liverpool Odds Predictions

The lone Premier League game on Tuesday is one with massive stakes as Liverpool visits Southampton. Liverpool’s dreams of winning the quadruple (Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup) are technically still alive but hanging by a thread. They trail Manchester City by four points and are seven goals behind in goal differential so anything other than a win today is disastrous. A loss and the title belongs to City. Southampton has been in vacation mode the last couple of months, but would like to play spoilers.

Southampton vs Liverpool Moneyline Prediction

If you really want to, you can come up with a justification for why this game might be closer than you’d otherwise think. Liverpool are coming off an emotional, 120 minute epic against Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk picked up injuries and are unavailable today as is Fabinho. Southampton is at home and hasn’t played in ten days.

Coach Ralph Hasenhüttl said this is their Champions League final and they have some good results against top clubs this year drawing with Manchester City both times, beating Arsenal once and taking four points off Tottenham…but this is still a tall task.

This is a team that appears to have checked out mentally, losing seven of its last ten games and when things go south for the Saints they REALLY go south, as evidence by a 6-nil defeat to Chelsea earlier this season. Liverpool is banged up, but Diogo Jota will replace Salah in the lineup and probably would start for 15 or so teams in the league regularly so the dropoff shouldn’t be that severe. Liverpool has to have it and should get it.

Pick: Liverpool -305

Southampton vs Liverpool Total Prediction

You don’t really want to be on the under in a Liverpool game, do you? Even without Salah they have plenty of firepower in attack and Southampton can be quite leaky defensively. There also exists the possibility without their talismanic leader Van Dijk, Liverpool might be a little less stout defensively than you’d expect too. It’s possible that Liverpool will have some heavy legs affecting them, but they have good depth and if we get the Southampton team that has been checked out lately, it could get ugly.

Pick: Over 3.5 (+110)
