Can’t say I saw a 6-2 Rangers win coming last night, and I think if you asked the biggest Rangers fan in the world they would say they might not have expected a blowout win over the 2x-defending Cup winners. The rust clearly showed for Tampa and the rest didn’t really matter a whole lot as the Rangers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. We’ll see how Tampa responds in Game 2 on Saturday night, that one should be fun. Speaking of fun, the Avs and Oilers play Game 2 tonight and if you hadn’t heard they combined for 14 goals in Game 1. I’m getting my odds from FanDuel tonight. If you haven’t signed up with them yet you can do so HERE and get $200 in free bets win or lose when you place a $5 wager.

Goal Scored in First 5 Minutes – Yes (+142)

Really any over or yes prop in this game when it comes to scoring goals isn’t a bad idea. The game’s first goal came just over the 5 minute mark in Game 1, and the two teams never looked back. I do expect a little bit of a slower pace tonight (big leap there, Matt) but I still think we’ll see plenty of goals. Colorado will probably try and control the pace a little more and slow things down with Edmonton, but slowing things down for Colorado is still playing fast. Given the pace this game started with in Game 1, and that there isn’t really a feeling out process to be had any more, I think we’ll see chances early in Game 2. Darcy Kuemper’s status is still unknown, Mike Smith stinks, if there’s a prop that’s plus money and includes scoring goals it’s not a bad idea to roll with it.

Cale Makar to Record 3+ Points (+680)

Obviously some long odds on this one, but if there’s going to be a lot of goals to be had tonight, betting on Cale Makar to factor in on a bunch isn’t a bad idea. Makar has recorded 3 points in 4 games so far this postseason including Game 1. In games not against St. Louis, he’s recorded 3 points in 4 of 5 games so far this postseason. Makar is the best defenseman in the NHL, he’s going to get plenty of PP time, and with how fast Colorado is and how, um…average…Edmonton’s defense is we could see Colorado on the PP multiple times again tonight. It’s a longshot, but a much more realistic one than the +680 odds suggest.
