Yankees vs. Rangers Prediction: New York and Texas meet for a Monday matinee in the Bronx

Sports Betting » MLB Betting News » Yankees vs. Rangers Prediction: New York and Texas meet for a Monday matinee in the Bronx

After a traditional double-header on Sunday, the Rangers and Yankees conclude their three-game set this afternoon. After splitting yesterday’s games, Texas sends Jon Gray (0-1, 7.50 ERA) to the mound while Nestor Cortes (1-1, 1.82 ERA) toes the rubber for New York in the rubber match. Let’s take a quick look at the game odds and my Yankees vs. Rangers prediction.

*Concensus odds from Betsperts.com

New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers Odds

As seen in most MLB games, the home team is a sizable favorite on the money line today. The consensus line has New York -215 meaning that you’d have to wager $2.15 in order to win $1. The underdog Texas is +179 which makes a $1 bet win $1.79. Today, the Yankees are -1.5 on the run line at even money with the Rangers getting 1.5 runs at -120.

Yankees vs. Rangers run line prediction:

Yankees -1.5 (Even)

The data suggests taking the Rangers on the run line today. They’ve covered their last five games and are 4-1 ATS during their last five road contests. This is in contrast to the Yankees being 1-4 ATS during their last five including two straight L’s against these Rangers.

However, New York Starter Nestor Cortes has started five games this season and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of them. New York has also won three of his starts this year by an average of 5 runs/gm.

The Yankees’ now cold lineup, may heat back up today with a nice matchup against Texas starter Jon Gray. He’s started just three games so far in 2022 but hasn’t been good in any of them. Gray has allowed 3+ runs in five or fewer innings in each start this season. The Rangers have lost two of his three starts this year and both by 2 or more runs.

Yankees vs. Rangers Total Over/Under Prediction:

Over 7.5 (Even)

The consensus total is set at 7.5 with over (even) and under (-120). I’m going against the data again here as both Texas and New York have been hitting under pretty consistently. The Rangers have gone under in 13 of their last 19 games. While the Yankees have done so in 17 of their last 26. However, as I highlighted above, Jon Gray has been struggling mightily this year and the Yankees could explode in a big way today. And as good as Cortes has been for New York this year, he’s allowed 12 hits and walked 4 guys over his last two starts. Base runners could be a plenty today for both teams and even if Nestor continues his string of 2 runs/allowed or less, New York could eclipse the total themselves.
