UFC 277: Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena 2

Alexandre Pantoja by Submission or Points (-140, Fanduel) Over Alex Perez

Alex Perez is 24-6 and is coming off of a nearly two-year layoff after losing his first attempt at the Flyweight Championship. Perez likes to start his fights fast and bring the fight to his opponents by setting the pace early on. Averaging 2.92 takedowns per 15 minutes, he’s only been credited with four takedowns over his last six fights as he’s found it tougher to wrestle opponents that are well-versed on the ground. In his six losses, Perez has lost four of them via submission and that’s good news for his opponent.

Alexandre Pantoja was primed for a title shot when a knee injury kept him out. With a 24-5 record, Pantoja has nine wins by submission and seven more went his way on the scorecards. Pantoja has never been finished as all five of his losses came via decision, so the odds of this fight hitting the cards look solid. The style of Perez may work in Pantoja’s favor as he’s typically a slow starter and will be forced to be alert and active early on. Pantoja is very dangerous on the ground so he may be inviting Perez to wrestle with him where he will have a grappling advantage. The motor on Perez can often lead to recklessness and that’s where Pantoja can catch him in something that he won’t be able to get out of.
