Picking MLB games is a complex and tiring task with shaky bullpens, weird extra inning rules, and the natural state of the game. One way to attack the sport and have fun while you’re at it, is by betting MLB player props. Heck yeah! We started the week 2-0 netting a nice 2.58 units with yesterday’s plays. Let’s try to keep seeing green with a couple more winners. Check out my choices for the Best Baseball Player Props for August 9th.

Best Baseball Player Props for August 9th
Zack Wheeler Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-140, Fanduel) Bet 1.5u to win 1.07u
He’s been lights out at home this season pitching to a 1.58 ERA, .798 WHIP, & an OBA of .183. Wheeler has also strung together three straight really strong outings going 7-innings and allowing 2 or fewer runs in all of them. He’s not striking out a ton of people this year but has gone over this K prop in his last two starts.
He faces a Marlins team who prior to struggling against them in Miami this year, he had dominated the past two seasons. In three starts over 2020 and 2021, he went 2-0, allowed a total of 6 runs, and struck out 7 or more in two of those three games. The Marlins are “floundering” down the stretch, and Wheeler is getting primed for a postseason push.

Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 Hits (-198, DraftKings) Bet 4u to win 2.05u
Most recent signs point to this prop going under tonight but I see some light at the end of the tunnel. Lets ignore the fact that Shohei is 0-for-10 in his career against James Kapriellian and that he’s been struggling since July. He has history of success against the A’s and facing them may be exactly what Ohtani needs to get going.
He’s batting .282 with 60 hits in 57 career games against the A’s. That success has continued this season where he’s 13-for-40 with a hit in seven of the ten games against them. And Shohei is a much better hitter against RHP as he’s batting over 30 points higher than against lefties. These odds for a single hit are too good to pass on and Ohtani is too good not to include as one of my best baseball player props for August 9th.
