Picking MLB games is a complex and tiring task with shaky bullpens, weird extra inning rules, and the natural state of the game. One way to attack the sport and have fun while you’re at it, is by betting MLB player props. We split our props yesterday and took a small loss of .34u but overall, we’re plus a little over 6 units the last three days. Best Baseball Player Props for August 5th
Paul Goldschmidt: Hit (-210, Fanduel) Bet 5u to win 2.40u & RBI (+140, Fanduel) Bet 2u to win 2.8u
In line with my previous props, I’m going really aggressive with the NL Batting Champion & MVP front runner Paul Goldschmidt. Goldy has recorded a hit in over 75% of all his games this season and he has the league’s 3rd most total hits at 125 so far. He has the luxury of batting 3rd in the order which has helped him accumulate 82 RBI on the season, good for 4th in the league.
That’s not all! Goldschmidt is hitting LHP well this year but the Cards’ first baseman is doing so at an almost unbelievable .471 clip. He’ll face lefty Nestor Cortes of the Pinstripes tonight who has been great this year but is allowing RHB to hit over 90 points better than LHB. Cortes has also been hit hard on the road this year and has a road ERA almost a full run higher than in the Bronx.
Goldschmidt is a danger to any pitcher but considering how good he’s been against lefties and Nestor’s struggles on the road and against right-handed hitters, these were must add props to the card.
Mookie Betts: Hit (-250, Fanduel) Bet 5u to win 2u & score a Run (-155, DraftKings) Bet 3u to win 1.95u
I’m getting very aggressive with these plays but for good reason. Mookie is still one of the league’s best players, he’s recorded a hit in over 75% of all his games played this season, and has scored the 2nd most runs on the season at 72. In addition to those ridiculous stats, Betts has a nice history against tonight’s opposing starter Sean Manaea and is crushing LHP in 2022. He has 7 hits in 19 career ABs against Manaea and is hitting .327 with a .388 OBP off lefties this year.
Mookie is batting atop baseball’s 2nd highest-scoring offense. The Dodgers just so happen to be averaging 5 runs/gm against their division rival. Manaea struggled mightily against LA earlier this year and I expect more of the same with Betts setting the tone.
