Happy Friday! Our last series before the All-Star break get underway today before the league heads to Hollywood for the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game next week at Dodger Stadium. Some pretty good pitchers are taking the mound on this Summer Friday, so maybe do yourself a favor and check out some 1st 5 Unders. I’m getting my odds on FanDuel for today’s picks. Mets -1.5 (+134) vs Cubs – 2:20pm ET
Going to keep riding with the Mets in this series. They’re a much better team than the Cubs, and the Cubs are really spiraling right now. The Mets rode their momentum from their series win over Atlanta to a big win at Wrigley last night, and I expect that trend to continue with these teams heading in opposite directions. Marcus Stroman throws against his old team, he’s been better lately than his brutal start to the year, but he’s still sporting an ERA hovering close to 5.00. Taijuan Walker takes the hill for the Mets and he’s turned in quality starts in each of his last 6 starts. In 2 July starts, he’s thrown 13.0 IP allowing just 3 ER and has struck out 16 while walking just 2 batters. I don’t think he’ll give the Cubs many free passes. Love this value.
Phillies vs Marlins 1st 5 Under 3.5 (+104) – 6:40pm ET
Sandy Alcantara is on the mound for the Marlins tonight and he’s been good this season. Like Cy Young good. He comes into this matchup with the Phils with a 1.73 ERA and a WHIP of 0.91. Alcantara hasn’t allowed and earned run in his last 2 starts and he’s averaged 8.0 IP over his last 3 starts. Dude has been downright filthy, and if he were a Dodger or a Yankee he’d be a lock to start next week’s All-Star Game. Kyle Gibson throws for Philly, he’s struggled a bit this year but was really solid in his last start vs St. Louis tossing 7.0 shutout innings and allowing just 2 hits. Gibson has struggled on the road a bit this season, but I’m banking on Alcantara to carry the load here and like this value at plus money.
