MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks for July 25th

The MLB trade deadline is rapidly approaching and how this week shapes up will likely affect the trade deadline in a big way. Two of the three A.L. Division races aren’t close, but the A.L. Central is a three team race that should see some movement. The N.L. has two tight division races and both wild card races are wide open. Long story short, keep an eye on those teams in races this week and keep an eye on Twitter for any moves. Braves ML (-111) at Phillies

Going back to the well with some heavy favorites at close to even money odds. Max Fried throws for the Braves today and he’s been outstanding all season. In each of his last 7 starts he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs. The Braves have won 10 of Fried’s last 11 starts and have covered the -1.5 8 times in that stretch. After going on a tear in the post-Girardi era, the Phillies have hit a little bit of a skid getting swept at home by the basement-dwelling Cubs. After a slow start, the Braves are back to being one of the best teams in baseball, Max Fried is one of the best pitchers in baseball, back the ace.

Dodgers -2.5 (+106) vs Nationals

It’s the best way to get some value on the Dodgers, but much like the Braves, the Dodgers are throwing (one of) their ace in Tony Gonsolin tonight who’s an NL Cy Young candidate. The Dodgers have won the last 8 Gonsolin starts, and they have covered the -2.5 in 3 of those games. 3 of 8 isn’t the best trend, but the Nationals are really bad. This one feels like a don’t think, just shoot with the +106 value. Back the best team in baseball with a Cy Young candidate throwing.
