MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks for August 9th

DodgersScoreRun Betsperts Media & Technology

Thankfully the Yankees and Mariners salvaged an over for us on what was an otherwise forgettable betting night in baseball. The Yankees broke out of their slump in a big way routing the Mariners and the A’s were held scoreless in a 1-0 loss. There’s a full slate of games today so plenty of chances to get back on the right track. I’m on FanDuel today for my MLB odds. Mets -2.5 (+104) vs Reds

I never love laying the -2.5, but in certain matchups (oddly enough it seems to be with the Mets a lot) it makes sense with the value attached to it. I always love looking for lopsided pitching matchups and this one certainly is. It’s Carlos Carrasco for the Mets throwing against Mike Minor for the Reds. Minor has been brutal this year with an ERA in the low 6.00s and a WHIP of 1.57. He’s been a little better in his last couple starts, but still not something the Mets offense would be too concerned about. The Mets are firing on all cylinders after taking 4 of 5 against the rival Braves and avoided the let down spot last night with a 5-1 win vs Cincinnati. Carrasco has been fantastic since the beginning of July allowing just 6 ER total in his last 6 starts while striking out 33 and walking only 10. Let’s take the Mets and the value in this pitching matchup advantage.

Dodgers 1st Half -1.5 (+106) vs Twins

This one is a little bit of a reach, but I like the value and the Dodgers are playing as good of baseball as anyone in the big leagues right now. Julio Urias throws against Joe Ryan, so it’s a pretty solid pitching matchup. Urias has been lights out over his last 4 starts allowing just 3 ER recording quality starts in all 4. Ryan was good in his last outing against Detroit but the outing prior against the Padres he was shelled allowing 10 ER. 1st Half run lines are always a risk, but the odds are this close to even for a reason. Minnesota is coming off a tough loss to Toronto. The Dodgers are rolling. I like taking the risk for the value. The 1st Half result is -160, so no value there at all. Let’s roll the dice.
