MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks for August 5th

DodgersVsPadres Betsperts Media & Technology

Another 1-1 night for us on the diamond last night. Justin Verlander was absolutely dominant on the road against the Guardians last night throwing 6.0 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits and no runs striking out 5 while Zach Plesac struggled with his command. Johnny Cueto was great for the Sox, but the bats fell silent yet again despite a fully healthy lineup and Chicago lost 3-2. Let’s get back to some more picks for tonight. I’ll be on BetMGM for my odds on this lovely Friday. If you haven’t signed up with them yet you can do so below and get a risk free bet up to $1,000. Onto the bets.

White Sox 1st Half -0.5 (-120) at Rangers

While the bats have been brutal for the Sox at times like last night, Dylan Cease most certainly has not. Cease is easily one of the A.L. Cy Young frontrunners and looks to continue his dominance tonight. Cease has allowed 1 ER or less in each of his last 12 starts for the South Siders. Backing him in the 1st 5 innings seems like the smart play. Cease opposes Glenn Otto for Texas who’s got an ERA in the mid-5.00s. Sure the Sox offense has been bad, but needing them to just do a little damage vs a bad starter early doesn’t seem like too much to ask with Cease on the mound.

Padres vs Dodgers Over 8.5 (-115)

The Dodgers and Padres rekindle their rivalry at a really fun time as both come in on a hot streak. The Padres have won 4 of their last 5 while the Dodgers have won 5 straight. After a Cy Young-quality first half of the season from Tony Gonsolin, he’s come back down to earth a little bit. He hasn’t been terrible, but he’s allowed Home Runs in each of the last 5 starts and 3+ ER in 4 of the last 5 outings. Sean Manaea has also been susceptible to the long ball as of late allowing 2 in each of his last two starts. The Padres just loaded up offensively adding Juan Soto and Josh Bell at the deadline, the Dodgers still have an elite lineup, let’s root for some Friday night fireworks.
