MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks for August 24th

We just need to see one go in. Been a bad luck streak for me that we just need to keep riding out. Frankie Montas stinks through three starts as a Yankee, I bet against him, then he puts it together against one of the best lineups in baseball. The Cardinals trot out their ace in Adam Wainwright against a bad Cubs team in Game 1 of a doubleheader against a minor league call-up in Javier Assad. Assad allows 7 baserunners through 4.0 IP and the Cardinals can’t find a way to bring anyone in. That’s just baseball sometimes. We’re onto the next one. Using FanDuel for my bets today. They have a new offer for new users as NFL season approaches: bet $5 on any sport you’d like, get $150 in free bets whether or not that bet wins or loses. Onto the bets.

Same Game Parlay: Braves 1H Result & Braves -1.5 vs Pirates (+107)

There’s day baseball today in Pittsburgh, and if there’s day baseball I’m going to try and find a way to bet it. In a matchup as lopsided as this one, you do have to get a bit creative which is what’s nice about same game parlays. On their own the Braves -1.5 is -162 and the Braves 1H result is -160. Put them together and you get a nice +107 value. Kyle Wright throws for Atlanta today, he’s out together 8 quality starts in his last 10 outings and goes up against a Pirates lineup that’s scored just 8 runs combined in their last 4 games. Since dropping 4 of 5 to the Mets in New York, the Braves have won 13 of their last 15 and have been playing as good of baseball as anyone in the majors. Mitch Keller throws for Pittsburgh, he’s got a WHIP near 1.50 so the Braves will get chances to drive in runners. Let’s back the very good team over the very bad team.

White Sox vs Orioles 1H Over 4.5 (-106)

Not that it’s likely to happen again, but these two teams covered the 1H over 4.5 in the 1st inning last night. The White Sox FINALLY hit a home run, and then the Orioles answered right back. The pitching matchup tonight certainly suggests a 1H over, and that’s also why were seeing it as high as 4.5. It’s Lucas Giolito for the Sox opposing Spenser Watkins for Baltimore. Giolito has gone from top 10 Cy Young finisher in 2020 to barely even a 5th starter this season sporting a 5.34 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP. He’s really struggled against better competition, most recently at home against Houston allowing 7 ER over 3.0 IP in his last start. Watkins has been better than Giolito, but still not fantastic. He’s got an ERA over 4.00 and a WHIP of 1.33 so lineups are getting their chances with runners on.
