MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks for August 15th

Shohei Ohtani pitching against Houston

Back for another week of baseball bets, some division and Wild Card races are getting really tight, should be a fun final 6 or so weeks of the MLB season. Tonight we have a pretty full slate of games and some aces taking the mound. I’m on BetMGM for my bets tonight. If you haven’t signed up with them yet, you can do so below. Upon sign-up and initial deposit, you’ll get a risk-free $1,000 wager on your first bet. Onto the bets.

Marlins 1st Half ML (+108) & 1st Half Under 3.5 (-128) vs Padres

Pretty much like clockwork, every 5th day I’m betting on Sandy Alcantara. The NL Cy Young favorite opposes Joe Musgrove for the Padres who’s also been really good this season with an ERA under 3.00. The Marlins are fresh off getting swept in 4 games by the Braves at home. No better time to have their ace taking the hill. Alcantara has an ERA under 2.00 in the 1st-5th innings this season. The Marlins offense has also struggled a bunch, they scored just 8 runs total in their last 4 games and 11 in their last 5. I think Alcantara and a bad Marlins lineup means they’ll do their part toward the under. Then it’s plus money odds backing Alcantara.

Mariners vs Angels 1st Half Under 3.5 (-122)

Another battle of aces here as Luis Castillo throws for Seattle against Shohei Ohtani for Anaheim. This bet is a pretty self-explanatory one thanks to the pitching matchup. Neither offense has set the world on fire the last week, though neither has been all that bad. Luis Castillo has been lights out since being traded to Seattle. In two starts as a Mariner, he’s 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA, 15 Ks, 5 BB, and an Opponent BA of just .163. Ohtani is still Ohtani even if the rest of the Angels team has been wildly disappointing. Had the Angels been in a playoff race, Ohtani would be an MVP candidate. In his last 10 starts he’s allowed more than 2 ER just once. Let’s back the starters and look for strikeouts.
