MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks for August 10th

2-0 last night with a pair of plus-money winners! The Dodgers left no doubt with a 10-3 win over the Twins but more importantly for us, they led 5-1 after 5 innings easily cruising to cash the 1st Half -1.5. Things got a little dicey for the Mets -2.5 bet, they led 4-0 after 6 Innings, but a 2-run 7th temporarily caused a sweat to cut things to 4-2. Luckily the Mets answered right back with two more in the bottom half and cashed the -2.5 for the game. A full slate of games today across baseball including a few day games, so check those lines early. I’m on FanDuel today, sign up with them below and get a No Sweat First Bet up to $1,000. Onto the bets.

Marlins 1st Half Result (+145) vs Phillies

I’ve done it several times before, but I love getting creative and trying to find value backing Sandy Alcantara. The Marlins visit Philly tonight as Alcantara opposes Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard has made just one start since the trade to the Phillies and it didn’t go well at all. Against the lowly Nationals he went 5.0 innings and allowed 11 hits and 4 ER while striking out just 2. A forgettable first start for Thor, and another slow start could lead to some boo birds in front of the home crowd. Alcantara, meanwhile, continues to be lights out for the Marlins. After a rare off-start vs the Mets two outings ago, he bounced back with a complete game shutout against the Reds. Let’s back maybe the best pitcher in the N.L. against a struggling former ace at plus-money.

Astros 1st Half -1.5 (+114) vs Rangers

I said yesterday I don’t love 1st Half run lines, but here we are for the second straight day. On paper, this is one of the more lopsided pitching matchups you’ll see this season. Justin Verlander is throwing for Houston, likely the A.L. Cy Young frontrunner at the moment. The ageless wonder has allowed just 4 ER total in his last 7 starts and now sports an ERA of 1.73 and a WHIP at 0.85. Glenn Otto and his over-5.00 ERA starts for Texas. Outside of a good last outing against the White Sox (who struggle brutally vs RHP) Otto has struggled. Give me the high-end lineup and the ace in Verlander early and often at home against the struggling Rangers.
