It was a fun day of playoff baseball on Tuesday that saw the Yankees advance to yet another ALCS with the Astros and the Phillies use the long ball to take Game 1 of the NLCS. We went 1-1 on our bets yesterday, but hit on a +255 winner when Aaron Judge went yard early in Game 5. Rhys Hoskins went 0-4 so we came up empty on our NLCS bet. Top MLB Prop Bets for October 19th
Astros -1.5 (+125, BetMGM) vs Yankees
I’m really looking forward to this series, and any time these two playoff rivals get together in October we seem to get fireworks. The Astros come into Game 1 fresh and with their ace on the mound in Justin Verlander, and while Verlander had a bad first start in the ALDS against Seattle I don’t mind betting on him to bounce back. The haven’t played since Saturday, but they seem to be the one team this postseason that was able to fight off the rust of a long layoff.
The Yankees went to Nestor Cortes yesterday to close out Cleveland and it worked big time, but that leaves them with Jameson Taillon today. Taillon was rocked in his one playoff outing this October, and the Yankees bullpen has been the week point of their roster this season. I hope this one is a long, back-and-forth ALCS but Game 1 seems like a matchup that heavily favors the defending American League Champion Astros.
Jose Altuve Over 0.5 Hits (-180, PointsBet)
The little big man is the fire starter for this Astros lineup and has really struggled to begin the 2022 MLB playoffs. It’s a new series, against a new opponent, and a fresh start for Jose who should get the ALCS off to a nice start if recent history tells us anything.
Altuve went 3-for-3 off today’s Yankees starter Jameson Taillon back in June and is batting over .300 against the Pinstripes in the playoffs. He struggled against New York in the regular season, recording just 6 hits in 26 ABs but is not someone who stays mired in slumps for long. This prop is normally well over -200, and is so at some other sportsbooks, so I’ll gladly take the value and add it to our Top MLB Prop Bets for October 19th.
